May 10, 1948 - July 15, 2025

Robert Cecil Lederhouse passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at the age of

seventy-seven.

Born to the late Cecil King Lederhouse and Louise Ophelia (Fiegl) Lederhouse. He

graduated as Valedictorian from Starpoint High School in 1965, a testament to his

intellect, dedication, and early pursuit of excellence.

He earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate at Cornell University. He then began

his academic career at Rutgers University. He later served as a professor at Michigan

State University, where he specialized in entomology, evolutionary biology, and

ecology. Robert co-edited Swallowtail Butterflies: Their Ecology and Evolutionary

Biology (1995), a landmark work in the field.

During his retirement, Bob learned to play bridge. He played in both competitive and

social games, enjoying the camaraderie among the players.

Bob was an avid sports fan, with a special interest in hockey.

He is survived by his brothers Paul (late Teresa), James (Greta), Joseph (Johnna)

Lederhouse, and relatives and friends touched by his kindness and generosity.
