Michael F. Gallagher of Lewiston, NY passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 27, 1940, a son of the late Michael J. and Honora M. (Shanahan) Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher was a graduate of Bishop Duffy and St. Bonaventure University. He was the Director of the Niagara County Department of Social Services for over 30 years.

Mr. Gallagher was one of the founding members of the Whirlpool Little League, also a 4th Degree member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #247 and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He enjoyed reading and watching all types of sporting events.

Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (Weir) Gallagher; sons, Daniel J. (Dorothy), Terrence P. and David W. (Tonyetta) Gallagher; grandchildren, Michael, Breanna, Kaylyne, Daniel, Brendan, Savannah, Jesse, Julian, Mikala, Colin and Shane; great-grandchildren, Michael, Ansley and Vivienne; sisters, Mary G. (James) Glynn, Sister Margaret Gallagher, SSJ, and Patricia (John) Kinner; a sister-in-law, Barbara Weir; also many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Michael F. Gallagher, Jr.

His family will be present on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, Lewiston, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 11 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY. Entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
