Lockport, NY - Marie Kathryn Degnan, RN, retired nurse, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Daughter of the late Edward P. and Florence R. Guenther, Marie was born at home in Getzville and grew up in Buffalo. She earned her three year registered nurse degree at the University of Buffalo, with training at Millard Fillmore Hospital and Gowanda Psychiatric Hospital. Upon graduation Marie worked at Lockport Memorial Hospital for the next 30 years in the maternity, surgery, and intensive care unit as head nurse.
Marie married John Hugh "Jack" Degnan in 1950 at Blessed Sacrament Church and enjoyed married life for 61 years having six children, thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Her sole sibling, Edward predeceased her in 2022.
Marie is survived by her children, Michael (late Sarah) of Buffalo, Coleen (Ron) Veness of Hastings, England, Jeffery (Cynthia), Peter (Tracy), Krista (late Daniel) McDonald all of Lockport, and Daniel (Josephine) of Kenmore; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass to be celebrated Monday, May 12th at 10 AM at All Saints Parish, 76 Church St., Lockport.
