Karen McAvoy, age 72, of Middleport, passed away peacefully February 14, 2019, and is now in the hands of God. Karen was born May 30, 1946 in Medina, NY, a daughter of the late Francis and Bernice (McCabe) Kubatek.

Karen was a 1964 graduate of Royalton Hartland High School and a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Stephen's Worship Site. She retired from Bernzomatic in Medina and was united in marriage to Dennis McAvoy on October 5, 2001. Karen enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis; daughter, Jennifer Slattery; step-children, Christopher (Debi) McAvoy and Michael J. O'Connor; grandchildren, Jack Bounds, Allison Bounds and Matthew McAvoy; sister, Nancy Yardman; and canine companion, Maggie; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, NY 14105, on Sunday, February 17th from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. Karen's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Stephen's Worship Site, 19 Vernon St., Middleport, NY 14105, on Monday at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions in Karen's name may be made to Middleport Fire Dept., P.O. Box 94, Middleport, NY 14105.
