James D. Ditzel Obituary

Lockport, NY - Of the Town of Cambria, NY, passed away on April 15, 2026, at Roswell

Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on June 1, 1950, the son of the late Carl and Betty [Burdick] Ditzel.

Jim was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School and continued his education at Williamsport Community College.

Throughout his career, he was employed by Vibratech and Greatbatch, and also worked for the Town of Cambria, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. In addition, Jim was well known in the local area for drawing house plans for others, a skill that reflected both his precision and willingness to help those around him.

Jim was an active member of the community and belonged to the Sanborn Lions Club, the Sanborn Area Historical Society (SAHS) and was a member of Hope United Methodist Church.

He also gave his time as a coach for NWAA Football, contributing to the development of young athletes and leaving a lasting impact on those he mentored.

Jim found great joy in attending his grandchildren's activities, whether it was sports, dance, or other pursuits. He enjoyed reading, following baseball, watching the Buffalo Bills play and spending time with family and friends. Earlier in life, he enjoyed stock car racing and woodworking, including building furniture. He will be remembered as a hardworking man who deeply loved his family and took pride in being present in their lives.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years Sallie [Johnson] Ditzel, his children, Justin (Jennifer) Ditzel, Kara Baker and Jillian (John) Maxon, his grandchildren, Tyler, Aubrey, William, Marleigh, Ryan, Camden, and Chase, his brother Gary (Judy) Ditzel, also his brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
