Helen Patricia O'Rielly Obituary

Panama City Beach, FL - Helen Patricia O'Rielly, known as "Pat," died peacefully on January 22, 2025, in Panama City Beach, Florida. Pat was born in Brooklyn, New York, the oldest child of the late Philip and Florence Hopkins O'Rourke. Their family moved to Western New York during World War II. Pat grew up on Cottage Street in Lockport and attended St. Mary's School. Her family later moved to Barker, where she graduated from Barker Central High School in 1953.

After high school, Pat moved back to Lockport and worked at the Marine Trust Company and Lockport Memorial Hospital. She got married and had four children. Her first marriage ended in divorce in the 1960s. In 1968, she got remarried, to Robert O'Rielly, and had two more children. With six kids and four stepchildren, her second marriage created a blended family—a rarity at the time—with 10 kids.

Pat was a member of St. Bridget's Church in Newfane in the 1970s and then a longtime member of All Saints Parish/St. Patrick's Church in Lockport. In the 1980s, she worked as the secretary at St. Peter's UCC Church in Lockport, briefly returned to working at Marine Midland Bank in the 1990s, and then worked at YWCA of Niagara, retiring in 2011 as its Director of Operations.

In retirement, Pat moved to Panama City, Florida, to be closer to some family and to escape winter weather. She lived independently until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Pat spent her final several years at Charter Senior Living in Panama City Beach, Florida, where she died in her sleep at age 89.

Pat was predeceased by her husband, Bob; her son, Kevin Waas; and her brother, Philip O'Rourke. Pat is survived by her daughter Debra Keyes (late Stephen), sons Brian Waas, Gregg Waas (Lori), Michael O'Rielly (Sarah), and Daniel O'Rielly (Margaret). Pat is also survived by four stepdaughters, Lily Susan O'Rielly, Sharon O'Rielly McDirmid (late Stephen), Robin Stork, and Patricia O'Rielly. She had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, followed by Interment at Cold Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
