Constantino Anthony "Tony" Frieri Obituary

Burt, NY - Constantino Anthony "Tony" Frieri, born May 10, 1927, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, lived a life defined by devotion to family, service to country, and an unwavering commitment to education. Tony was the beloved son of Constantina and Michael Frieri.

He attended Pittsfield High School, where he distinguished himself as an avid sportsman, playing both football and baseball throughout his high school years. His love of athletics reflected his lifelong appreciation for teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Following high school, Tony proudly served his country in the United States Navy, completing boot camp toward the end of World War II. He served for three years (1944-1946) and was honorably discharged, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and patriotism that remained with him throughout his life.

Tony pursued higher education with passion and purpose. He earned a Bachelor's degree in History from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire and later obtained a Master's degree from Niagara University. These academic achievements laid the foundation for a lifelong career in education. Tony proudly dedicated most of his life's work to Wilson High School, working as a devoted educator who taught history, economics and Russian studies to countless students from 1964-1994. Many of his students became lifelong friends, who Tony treasured. He was a fierce advocate for education and a tireless champion for individuals with disabilities. He believed deeply in the power of learning to transform lives and was known for standing up for students and families who needed a strong voice.

On October 17, 1959, Tony married the love of his life, Marie Theresa Hobevche at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Their marriage spanned 61 years, marked by devotion, partnership, and enduring love. Together they raised two daughters, Micheline and Annette, who were both the center of their parents' world.

Beyond the classroom, Tony was an educated investor who enjoyed following and dabbling in the stock market. In his younger years, Tony gained valuable experience; he worked in a packaging factory, was in retail at Sears, and also tried his hand as an entrepreneur, co-owning a liquor store with a close friend. These pursuits reflected his curiosity, intellect, and willingness to engage fully with life and assisted him in realizing his passion for learning and teaching. The Frieri's were staunch advocates and pioneers in the field of disabilities. In 2006 Marie and Tony were awarded a Certificate of Congressional Recognition acknowledging their outstanding and invaluable service to the disability community. In 2017, Marie and Tony were awarded the Heroes of Niagara Volunteers of Year Award by Opportunities Unlimited for their unparalleled contributions to the mission and vision of the agency's work. They were lifelong sponsors and benefactors of the agency.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marie Therese; his cherished daughter, Annette; and his three brothers-Nicholas, Alphonse, and Joseph. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Micheline, as well as by all who were fortunate enough to know him as a teacher, mentor, veteran, husband, father, and friend. Tony's legacy lives on in the countless lives he influenced through education, advocacy, and quiet strength.

A memorial service will be held at Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, Inc. 2670 Main Street Newfane, NY on February 5th at 1PM. Burial will take place at North Ridge Cemetery.
