Sally June Kubatek passed away on Saturday evening, February, 18, 2017 at her home in Middleport, NY after a two-year battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). She was born in Middleport on August 19, 1936 to Perry and Bessie (Collins) Smith.
Sally grew up in Lyndonville, NY, where she graduated from high school in 1954. She went on to complete IBM training in Rochester, NY, after which she worked for almost 20 years at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY as an IBM key punch operator. She wed Richard Kubatek on February 16, 1974, and they raised four children together.
Sally's passions were her home and family. She was an avid gardener, and in later years, camped and traveled around the U.S. with her husband, visiting family and friends. Their favorite trips were to Yellowstone National Park and to Fish Lake in the Adirondacks. She will be remembered and missed for her love of life, her laugh, and her smile.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, Harold (Pat) Smith, Edwin (Beverly) Smith, Robert (Carol) Smith, and Wallace (Jenny) Smith; as well as one sister, Mary Lou (Richard) Ruppel. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Middleport, NY; their son, Richard (Valerie) of Arizona; and three daughters, Teresa of Massachusetts, Tammy of New Mexico, and Terri Ann of Rochester, NY; six grandchildren; three sisters, Muriel (Keith) Newman, Carol (Joel) Beeby, and Patricia (Gary) Suzanne; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
At Sally's request, her body has been donated to the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences for the advancement of science and will later be cremated. Her ashes will accompany her husband in their RV so that they can continue their 43 year adventure. A memorial service will will be held at Hartland Bible Church, 8110 West Avenue, Gasport, NY, on Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon when the family will be available to greet friends and relatives.
