Paul R.'s Story
Paul R. Kempton, age 82, of Edgewater, FL, formerly of Middleport, NY, passed away on December 17, 2016, at the Halifax Hospice Care Ctr. in Edgewater, FL. He was born on June 18, 1934 to Burton Van and Edna Mae (Scarborough) Kempton in Hartland, New York.
He married the love of his life Patricia Ann Gaughn on March 17, 1953 and they had three sons, Paul Jr., Richard and Scott. Mr. Kempton worked several jobs in Middleport through the years before moving to Orlando, FL in 1988, where he worked and ultimately retired from Walt Disney World Resorts. His wife, Pat, also retired from Disney.
He dedicated his life to the Fire Service. He was a life member of the Middleport Fire Department, joining in 1953. He served as the Department's President for several years. He was also a member of the Middleport Fire Exempts. He served on committees for the County, WNY and State Fireman's associations and is a Past President of the Niagara County Fireman's Association. Mr. Kempton was also an avid bowler and enjoyed many years bowling with his sons. He is also of veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He is survived by his three sons, Paul (Marcia) Kempton of Warner Robins, GA, Richard Kempton of Boca Raton, FL, and Scott (Melody) of Edgewater, FL; seven grandchildren, Paul III, Burton, Amy, David, Nicholas, Eric, and Patrick; two step-grandchildren, Amber and Jeffrey; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou (Joe) Deptula of Clarence, NY, and Susie (Gary) Gursling of Morristown, TN.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia (Patty Ann); and his brother, Donald Kempton of Johnsons Creek, NY.
Mr. Kempton desired cremation and requested that no public services beheld and his sons will honor his wishes. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in his name be sent to Halifax Hospice Care Center, 4140 South Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, FL 32141.
