William L.'s Story
William L. Smith, Jr., 80, went to be with the Lord at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY, on September 4, 2017. Born November 20, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was son of the late William L. Smith Sr. and Vera Smith (Gordon).
A 1954 graduate of Niagara Falls High School, William was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was a Niagara Falls firefighter and retired as Captain in 1985. He went on to work for the Town of Porter as building and fire inspector. William enjoyed being active in his community. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Oddfellows, American Legion, and the Ransomville Library board. William was a member of the Masons serving as Master of the Ransomville Masonic Lodge 551, Past District Deputy Grand Master, Eastern Star and Shriners.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley J. (Rease) Smith of Ransomville; three sons, William Smith of Ransomville, John (Sandy) Smith of Middleport and Glenn (Annette) Smith of Newfane; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church North Ridge, 4169 Church Rd., Lockport, NY 14094.
