Virginia's Story

Virginia Duncan Horanburg entered into rest on February 1st surrounded by her loved ones and the caring staff at Niagara Hospice. She was born on October 17,1926 in Appleton, NY, to Elmer and Clara Duncan. She was married to Arthur Horanburg (deceased) for over 50 years.
Surviving Virginia are her three daughters, Susan (Gary) Truhn of Akron, NY, Patricia Burns of Cape Canaveral, FL and Sandra Meierer (Dave Tarnowski) of Sebastian, FL; three granddaughters, Kristie (Yogi) Gress, Stephanie (John) Donovan and Jennifer Smith. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Jordan, Samantha, Cody, Alexandria, Isabella, Owen, Teppo and great-great grandchildren, Ryli and Emma.
She retired from the Town of Newfane where she worked in the Water Department and as a Tax Collector. She was a member of Newfane United Methodist Church. She loved to golf, reading and was known for her daily walks around Newfane, where she was a resident for 70 years. She was a snow bird for many years in Cape Canaveral, FL, where she enjoyed visiting friends, walking the beach and dining out.
Family and friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY on MONDAY from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be on TUESDAY at 11 AM in the Newfane United Methodist Church, 2699 Main St., Newfane, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 or Newfane United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in Corwin Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
