Thomas E. Callaghan of Appleton, NY, born August 31, 1932 peacefully entered into rest on Monday, September 4, 2017. Tom was the son of Alonzo and Gertrude (Cramp) Callaghan of Newfane, NY. Tom was the loving and devoted husband of 61 years to his beautiful bride, Linda Robison Callaghan.
Upon graduation from Newfane High School, Tom served a two year tour of duty in the US Army where he was Military Police stationed in Germany. After, he became a mason working on various projects such as the NY State Power Project in Niagara Falls, NY. He then had a 30 year career as a rural letter carrier in the Town of Appleton. He was a lifelong member and past president of the New York State Rural Letter Carrier Association. He had received several accommodations along with the safe driver award. Tom was a member of the Olcott, NY Fire Company, serving as a past President. Tom loved life, socializing, gardening, camping, fishing, playing cards, and traveling. Along with this, he played Santa for many years for the City of Lockport, for church, family and friends. The family wishes to thank the people that have taken care of him, especially Erin and Kelsi.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by his children, Tracy, Timothy (Kathleen), Kevin (Sheila), Kerry (Roberta); and grandchildren, Christie, Kailee, Corey (Diane), Connor, Thomas, Shawn and Andrew; along with his great-granddaughter, Addison. Brother of Phyllis Martin; and several nieces and nephews. And his special orange cat, George.
Family and friends may call the Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, Inc. 2670 Main St, Newfane, NY on Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM which will include prayers. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at St Brendan on the Lake (Olcott Site - St. Charles). Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org, American Diabetes, www.diabetes.org, Olcott Fire Company, 1691 Lockport-Olcott Road, Burt NY 14028, the church or a charity of choice in Tom's name.
