Robert C. 'Smokey''s Story
Robert C. 'Smokey' Stover, Sr., of Clarence Center, entered into rest on Monday, July 17, 2017. Born on July 26, 1924 in Lockport, he was the son of the late Albert and Esther Stover.
Smokey served in the US Marine Corps from March 13, 1943 until November 25, 1945, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired from Harrison Radiator, where he worked for over 30 years. Smokey was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed spending time with the Hall family in the Adirondack Mountains and spending time with Bev and Steve Berry and Dick Sherman. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, camping, playing cards, woodworking and tinkering with any engine. He was known as a 'Jack of All Trades.'
His wife, Muriel 'Dottie' (Mecklenburg) Stover passed away on May 31, 2013. Father of Robert 'Smokey' (Janice) Stover, Jr. of Lockport, Michael (Janice) Stover of Amherst and the late Margaret 'Peggy' (late Robert) Bathrick; stepfather of Carol (Kenneth) Litfin of Clarence Center, Dale Mecklenburg of Akron and David Mecklenburg of Hawaii; grandfather of Michael, Anita, Shanlee, Courtney, Meegan, Ashley and Lyndsay. Also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 brothers and sisters; as well as many nieces, nephews.
Friends may call at PROVENZANO MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Niagara St. at Transit Sts. (same location as Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home.) on Friday from 4-7 PM. A Military Service will immediately follow.
