John (Jack) Gow of Newfane, New York, husband of Evelyn (Zanow) Gow, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2019. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late John D. and Naomi (Ray) Gow. Brother of Janis (Phil) Toenniessen, Ray (Claudia) Gow and the late Wayne and Gary Gow.
Jack was born in Appleton New York April 6, 1934. He was a graduate of Barker Central School class of 1952. He then attended Rochester Business Institute graduating in 1953.
He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1956 to 1958. Jack was awarded the Soldier of the Month award two months in a row.
He was employed at Harrison Radiator Division of GM (process follow up) and retired after 39 years. Jack loved music and played alto saxophone throughout high school and went on to play with Don Keller's big band for 25 years.
His hobbies were bowling in various leagues, playing cards with the exempt fireman, square dancing with the Grand Squares and playing pool on Thursday nights with his fun loving, rowdy friends.
He attended Newfane United Methodist Church and served as assistant financial secretary for 38 years from 1980 to 2018.
Jack is survived by his loving children, Kevin (Julie) Gow and Karen (Bill) Simon; grandchildren, Carrie (Joe) Rutkowski, Ethan Gow, Doug (Stephanie) Scott, Renee (Nick) Thomsen, Dr. Mary Simon and Lyndsay Simon; great-grandchildren, Carter Rutkowski and Peyton Scott and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, Inc., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY, Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Newfane United Methodist Church at 11 AM. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Immediately following a luncheon will be served at the Newfane United Methodist Church.
