Howard C. Bruning


Howard Bruning passed away on April 8, 2019 at Niagara Hospice. Born on October 17, 1951 in Medina, he was the son of Clayton and Gladys (Waterstreet) Bruning.
Howard served in the US Army from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War. While in service, he was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.
In 1972, he began working for Harrison Radiator, where he became a tool and die maker. He retired in 2007.
Howard was a member of Lockport Alliance Church. Applying the teachings of Jesus to his own life, Howard was known for his generosity, great council, and ability to befriend anyone. He led many bible studies throughout the community, volunteered, visited the sick, and always said, "yes" to helping anyone who asked. Howard loved spending time camping, fishing in Thousand Islands, working outside, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Nora (Bishop) Bruning; and six children, Amanda (Bill) Pittman, Kristin (Jim Schaich) Jamieson, Aaron (Michelle) Bruning, Eric Bruning, Denyel (Patrick Doty) Beiter, and Thomas (Grace Moser) Beiter. Howard was a great mentor to his eleven grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrew, Jacob, Caitlin, Hannah, Felicity, Alexis, Brett, Amber, Alana, and Benny. He was the brother to Donna (Mike Killion) Bruning and Roger Bruning; in-laws Matthew (Barbara) Bishop and Thomas Bishop. Howard is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, April 14th from 2-5 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A funeral service with Military Honors will be held Monday, April 15th at 10 AM at Lockport Alliance Church, 555 Davison Rd., Lockport, NY 14094. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Niagara Hospice or to the church would be appreciated.

Nora, we are all so sorry for your loss.

Howard was an amazing man, a gentle giant, full of strength and compassion. His quiet presence gave all of us hope and his faith carried us through so many tough times. It was a gift to know him.
