Dr. Harry E. Tomaschke, 89, of Lockport, New York died Friday, April 19, 2019 in Niagara Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was born April 25, 1929 to Paul and Bessie Tomaschke in Kendall, New York.
He served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean conflict as an instructor for radar equipment.
He earned an Associate's degree in electrical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology in 1950, a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Michigan State University in 1956, and a PhD in physics from the University of Illinois in 1964. He taught physics at Greenville College (now Greenville University) from 1964 until his retirement in 1995.
He married Lenora Rose in 1953. He loved God, his family, his students, birdwatching and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora; children, Dr. Carl and Jane Tomaschke, Greg and Robin Tomaschke, Dr. Ruth and Dr. Randy Kinnersley and Mark Tomaschke; grandchildren, Patrick, Christin, Phillip, Cedric, Celeste, Andrew, Sydney and Tanner Tomaschke, Greta and Donald Heppner, Matthew and Jonathan Starch; great-grandsons, Julian and Ambrose Tomaschke and Donald "DJ" Heppner, Jr.; sister-in-law, Anita Coburn Raboin, and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents; his parents-in-law, Edgar and Miriam Rose; his brother, David Tomaschke; and his brothers-in-law, Donald Coburn and Francis Raboin
He donated his body to UB Anatomical Gift Program.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, May 11 at Ransomville Free Methodist Church, 3924 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, New York followed by a memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Harry E. Tomaschke Student Scholarship Fund at Greenville University, 315 E. College Avenue, Greenville, Illinois 62246, Ransomville Free Methodist Church, or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, New York 14094.
