George Ortiz

George Ortiz passed away on August 9, at Gates Vascular Institute, Buffalo. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 29, 1947, he was the son of Julius Ortiz and Amelia Rosario. George served in the US Army, and during the Vietnam War he was stationed in Korea. He was a self-employed Audio Electrical Specialist for many years. After he retired, he worked part time at Home Depot in Lockport as the Electrical Specialist and volunteered at the American Red Cross, where he worked with the Disaster Team. He loved music and enjoyed dancing, playing the congas and bongos, and also enjoyed playing ping pong. His true passion was his motorcycle that he enjoyed repairing and taking for long rides.
George is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Gwendolyn Gonzalez; he was the father of Monique Ortiz (Mike Howard) and stepfather of Cindy Garrett, Jessica (Brad Allen) Gonzalez-Hogan, Amanda (Mike) Fischer and the late Ronald. He also is survived by his two grandchildren, Austyn Connor, Bradley. George was the brother of Angie Donolo and the late Alex Castro; he also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior visitation. Family and Friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 10:30 AM, at Grace Episcopal Church, 100 Genesee Street, Lockport. There will be a small reception following the service. Memorials to any Veterans Charity or the American Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.

I worked side by side with George for many years. He was my teacher, mentor, therapist and best of all my friend. I will miss his smile, his grand laugh, his patience and boundless love of life. Gwen, he talked about you all the time with great love and affection. We all loved him very much and will miss him always, May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
