George's Story

George C. Horne, 76, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on June 1, 2018 at Northgate Health Care Facility, Wheatfield, NY. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late J. Byran and Hazel (Manley) Horne.
George attended schools in North Carolina. He married Jacqueline (Rodgers) Horne on October 21, 1961 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. She predeceased him on January 22, 2013.
He served in United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1964. George was employed at General Motors as a Millwright for many years. He was an exempt member of Lewiston Fire Company No. 1, where he was an active fire-policeman. He also started restoration efforts for "Old Ward" fire truck, was an avid hunter, fisherman, very artistic wood carver, created items and gave them away to family and friends. George was a talented guitar player and vocalist, accomplished in auto body restoration, was in the process of restoring two Mustangs he owned, and especially a proud Harley-Davidson owner, one of his most memorable trips was when he and Jacqueline traveled Route 62 from Niagara Falls, NY, to El Paso, Texas, on his Harley-Davidson.
George is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Cheryl D. Horne of Niagara Falls; son, Keith D. (Tawnya) Horne, of Toronto; four grandchildren, Nicole (Shawn) Hotaling, Alivia, George and Keith Horne; four great-grandchildren, Dennis, Aiden, Amora and Everlyn; two siblings, Shirley (late Ralph) Wallace and William (Patty Swann) Horne; and his beloved cat, Penelope. He was predeceased by two brothers, Herman (late Cathy) and the late Bruce Douglas Horne; and her mother-in-law, late Gertrude Rodgers.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 12-3 PM at Lewiston Fire Company No.1, 145 N. 6th St., Lewiston, NY 14092.
