George P. Guogas of the Town of Somerset, entered into rest on December 27, 2017 at Niagara Hospice House. Born on January 30, 1948 to the late George and Florence Brussock Guogas in Wilkes Barre, PA.
He graduated from Paul Smith's College in 1968 with an AAS in Forestry. George served in the U.S Air Force from 1969 to 1972. He was a law enforcement officer for the State of New Jersey Marine Police from 1972 to 1974. He was a construction manager until 1993 in utilities projects throughout the nation including with a subcontractor for the Somerset Power plant during the 1980s. George was fond of Niagara County and later moved here permanently.
George engaged in many sports as a child and young man including baseball, basketball, soccer, skiing, hunting, and trapping. He could work with his head and his hands and was a methodical home remodeler.
George was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed his poker nights, hunting, and boating and fishing on Wilson Harbor and Lake Ontario. He was the charter president of the Towpath Optimist Club of Middleport. He coached soccer during his residence in New Jersey and for the Lighthouse Optimist Club of Barker. He adopted many dogs and cats during his life and loved them and his family, friends, and the natural world.
Surviving are George's wife of 24 years Kathleen Casey; son, Michael (Nicole) Guogas; daughter, Krista Guogas of New Jersey; brother, Robert (Andrea) Guogas of Florida; grandchildren,Briana and Aiden Petrie and Isabel and Kylie Guogas and two nieces. Family and friends may call on THURSDAY January 4, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME INC. 2670 Main St. Newfane, NY 14108. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7 PM with military honors.
