Frederick's Story

Text size

Frederick James Griffin, a genuine man with a huge heart, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. Fred was born on September 10, 1947 in Lockport, New York.
He was a graduate of Alemany High School in Los Angeles, CA in 1967 and graduated from Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA in 1969.
Fred spent much of his childhood in Lockport, New York, Del Rio, Texas, and Reseda, California. Upon returning to Lockport, he was employed by Ward Beals. For his love of the outdoors and sunshine, Fred eventually relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in 2005.
He loved camping with his family, the beach, surfing, boating and all sports. You would often find him sitting on the front porch of his family's cottage in Olcott, watching the thunderstorms approach over Lake Ontario. Fred believed in the motto of never judging a book by its cover. He was a generous and kind soul who would not hesitate to give you the shirt off of his back. The simple things in his life made him the most happy. Fred had a large personality and an even larger heart when it came to his family and friends.
As a music fan, Fred often told us that his approach to life reflected the words of Frank Sinatra; "I've lived a life that's full, I've traveled each and every highway, but more, much more than this, I did it my way."
Surviving him are his five children; Eric (Desiree) Griffin, Marie (Jason) Gallien, Carre (Kevin Kovar) Griffin, Chris Griffin, Scott Griffin; and his four grandchildren. Other survivors include his three siblings, Kathleen (John) Beilein, Patricia (Robert) Luff, and Karl Griffin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding Fred in death were his beloved parents, Edward M. and Karleen M. (Hartman) Griffin.
A private memorial will be held with his immediate family as a celebration of his life.
