I met Dave through my father Ted Winters. They were Best friends and whenever we visited my father, we’d visit with Dave. He became like a part of my family and he loved my deviled eggs. We were also grateful to him for allowing us to always park our car in his driveway when we went to Florida for a visit. I’ll never forget the day you decided to “upgrade” your 15 yr. old cell phone and you asked for my help in “picking out a New phone that would be able to receive pictures from messenger.” I explained that you would need to upgrade to a “smartphone” and you said, “What the hell is a smartphone? I just want to be able to send and receive pictures!” So, we went to the cel...l phone shop and looked at phones. The plan was to just upgrade to an older, easier to use cell that did what you wanted. However, once in the store the Samsung Galaxy 7s caught your eye and your mind was made up. You bought the phone and we needed a case and screen protector for it but, the cell shop didn’t have any in stock and referred us to Best Buy. It was then that you whispered in my ear, “Can we go home first? I really need to pee!” I started laughing and said , “yes, I’ll take you home to pee. You’re like taking a little child shopping hahaha!” So, we went back to your house so you could go potty and you decided you wanted to go to Best Buy the next day. I went over how to use the phone with you for about an hour and when I left for the night, I told you I’d go to Bestbuy in the morning and get your phone case, which I did, and you were already in need of help with the new phone. I reviewed how to work it and answered your questions and then took the phone to put on the Otterbox case. When You handed me your phone, I noticed that you had cracked the screen at the top and the bottom of it already! I asked what happened in such a short time having the phone and you replied, “I dropped it a couple times.” I laughed and said, “See, now if you didn’t have to pee so bad, we already would’ve had the case protector on it!” We both laughed. The next few days I spent working on the phone with you and fixing your lost contacts. You always apologized to me for being a pain in the butt. I told you that you weren’t and that I enjoyed doing it. I even programmed my picture and cell phone number in your phone in case you ever needed me for help when I went back home to NY. I’ll miss your smiles, hugs, stories, and friendship when I get to Florida again. I looked forward to spending time with you and my dad more often when we planned on moving there in the spring but, I know that you’re in a better place, pain free, with all of your family, friends, and brothers in arms. You'll always be in my heart and my memories! May you Rest In Peace, I love you!Read more

I worked with Dave at Lockport Savings Bank. Dave was a fun gentleman, always a smile and a helping hand. He was one of the “good guys”, his name would often come up when a group would get together asnd we’d bring up names and ask if anyone knew where they were. Hugs and prayers to his family and I know he will be missed by many. So glad to hear he was in Florida enjoying warm weather and golf.

I worked with Dave at LSB for many years. He was a fun, sweet gentleman, always a smile and a helping hand. Lost track of him after he left but his name would often come up when a group would be together and start bringing up names of the “good guys” and if anyone knew where they were. He will be missed, hugs and prayers to his family.

Dave and I served in Vietnam together. Dave moved to Michigan for a job in the early 1970's and we were reunited while he worked that job. We lost contact until the mid 1990's and have been in contact and seen each other many times since including a visit at the Villages 2 years ago riding the Golf Cart trails, Grilling out and going for wings down town. I will miss my Vietnam Veteran Brother !!!

Sad to hear the news of your brother Dave's passing. He was a great athlete and role model for us growing up. I remember playing football at Smith's side yard with our big brothers and getting knocked round pretty hard, but they let us play. I remember his running days setting the mile record, his service in Vietnam, and the kindness he always showed to me as your friend.
