With more than ten thousand performances during his 40 years on the Las Vegas strip, Carme was gifted with an outstanding baritone voice, flawless comedic timing, and a special rapport with his audience. His talents created opportunities to work with famous entertainers such as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., The Mills Brothers, Phyllis Diller, Patti Page and many others. He performed at the Dunes, Alladin, Thunderbird, and Sands to name a few.
Carme Daniel Pitrello was born in Lockport, NY and passed away in Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Carme Pitrello, Sr. and Elizabeth Piedmonte Pitrello. He attended Lockport schools and played football with the Lockport Essos. He served in the US. Army during the Korean War. He met and married Mimi Elizabeth Hammer in Florida. Together, they had three children, Samina, Gina and Carme Daniel III.
Carme begin entertaining in and around Lockport and Buffalo, singing, doing comedy routines and impersonations. His dear friend, Naishe Barrancotta, encouraged Carme to expand his gift for performing by moving his family to Las Vegas. In 1969, he made this move, changing his life forever. In 1974, Mimi died in a plane crash, leaving Carme to raise their children.
Years later he left Vegas and began another adventure, entertaining passengers on cruise ships and seeing the world. He met Shari Newby on one of these cruises. They settled in Redington Beach, FL then years ago and she became his partner and agent as he entertained in theaters, clubs and community centers in Florida.
Carme was called back to Las Vegas in 2012 to be inducted into the Las Vegas Hall of Fame. His beautiful baritone voice was a gift. An evening spent with Carme was filled with music, love and laughter.
Carme was predeceased by his sisters, Glorida Pitrello Booth and Darlene Pitrello. He is survived by his partner, Sharon Newby; his three children; three grandchildren, Sierra, Carme IV, and Sean; his great-grandchild, Jayce; his brothers, John (Tate) Pitrello and Michael Pitrello; his niece, Karen Booth and many Lockport cousins.
Carme was interred in Las Vegas where his children will honor him with a memorial celebration of his amazing life in Las Vegas on February 26, 2017.
